Duties and
Responsibilities: Health care facilities store a wide range of patient information,
including symptoms, diagnoses and treatment. At the heart of this function are
health information specialist who maintain and control access to patients’
records. These specialist work in a variety of health care setting, from
physician offices and ambulatory care centers to home health care service and
surgical hospitals.
Education: In order to
find an entry-level positions, aspiring health information management specialists
need to be familiar with basic medical vocabulary and insurance coding
techniques. Most employers hire candidates that have earned an associate degree
in health information management.
